If you are like me, then you must have researched into ‘how to succeed’ or ‘simple secret of success’. Well you are one of an ever growing list who ponder the same question everyday. Many studies carried out by psychologists have proven that human beings find it hard to answer three questions about the same subject.
Take your profession for example.
We can answer ‘what we are doing’ with ease as if it was recorded or premeditated answer. There usually isn’t any difficulty in answering this question.
When asked ‘how do you do what we do?’, we are still able to answer the question but with a little more difficulty to ensure we represent ourselves well. This is because we still want to feel accepted and respected by our peers.
However, when asked ‘why do we do what we do?’, majority of us find it hard to answer this question. This question is usually answered by the following answers:
- Because I want to make a great living
- Because I want to provide for my kids
- Because I want to help people
- Because it’s what I know
- Because I want to have a fruitful li
As somewhat ‘valid’ as these answers are, it still does answer the really ‘why’ of why YOU are doing what YOU are doing.
Let’s face it. You can make a living through any career or vocation. You can provide for you kids through any job and you can help people through many avenues. It doesn’t have to be your job or career.
No, the real reason is you got comfortable.
Answer for yourself these following questions
- Am I happy living the way I am living right now?
- Is this how I intended to live when I was growing up?
- Can I see myself doing this for another 20/30/40/50 years?
- Do I have job satisfaction? .
If you’re part of the lucky bunch and you answer yes to those then I’m happy for you and I’m glad you’re happy. But chances are majority of people aren’t in the same boat.
Your why should be that’s it makes you happy and gives you a satisfying purpose in life. That is the simple secret to success that you must first clarify for yourself.
Don’t panic!! There’s still hope.
If you’re not enjoying your life you have a few options …
a) Re-Kindle your fire and passion for your profession or
B) Learn to let go and follow your new passion and dream.
Because I can tell you if your ‘WHY’ isn’t strong enough, no matter what walk of life you’re in, you’ll just sink into the same quicksand.
The first foundation to any success starts by answering the key question to why you are doing what you are doing or starting what you are starting?
Emotion mixed with ambition is proven to be a clear and strong motivation to want to break away from the norm and live up to your dreams and life calling.
“He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.”
Don’t blink today, only to find yourself at an old age full of regrets of not following the path to what makes you smile. And for those who have kids and say I have kids to worry about… what better lesson could you teach your children than to lead by example and having the courage to follow what makes you happy, and achieving your dreams.
Your why is important. YOUR WHY IS EVERYTHING
